How To Keep Motivated
Succeeding in sales is an emotional roller-coaster, some days you are up and some days you are down and unless you figure out how to manage those emotions and keep yourself motivated, you'll have a difficult time succeeding.
There’s an old saying “Whether you think you can or can’t you’re absolutely right!”
It's amazing what difference a positive mental attitude can make to your performance and motivation levels.
To be motivated you need to think, talk and act as though you are motivated.
You can’t stop unmotivated and negative thoughts coming into your mind but when they are there you can decide to control them.
Succeeding in sales depends a great deal on your motivation. And staying motivated requires you to take charge of your thoughts.
Staying motivated is more than just positive thinking it’s all about intelligent thinking as well. It’s about seeing the situation as it is but not seeing it worse than it is!
In order to succeed you need to focus on the process rather than the outcome.
Remember, sales is an industry where you will “fail” more times than you “succeed” but it’s whether you see it as an actual failure that will impact upon your motivation levels.
I mean come on now, you know that you will not close every single appointment so stop beating yourself up about it!
Think about what is in your power to change and what is not in your power.
Control the controllables.
Think about what you are currently doing.
Are you giving it your best shot? Are you improving? Do you believe that you can
succeed?
Remember success boils down to 2 things. Strategy and mindset.
Analyse both of these and produce an improvement plan for each.
Success in sales is all about common sense but common sense is not common!
Ditch the excuses, think about what you need to get juiced up everyday, think about your long term goals and imagine what it will be like when you achieve them.
Every great salesperson I have come across takes time out to visualise. This is when you go to a quiet place and run through in your mind what you want to happen as though it is happening to you right there in a movie.
See yourself in the movie, how you are talking, acting, look at how confident you are.
You see, your brain cannot tell the difference between what is real and what is made up in your brain.
Don’t believe me?
Well, when you were a kid and in bed late at night and heard the floorboards creek in your room didn’t you imagine that there was a monster in there when you knew in reality that this was impossible? Or did you ever see faces in the wallpaper?
How did it make you feel?
Yes, and these were just made up feelings!
Another way to keep motivated is to keep a life plan. This is a booklet or journal that details your life’s mission and purpose, what you stand for, your beliefs, what you want to achieve in your lifetime, what you want to achieve short term and so on.
And whenever you feel unmotivated, take a look at the book, read through the contents and then put some of your favourite music on and do some visualising as though all of what is in the book is real.
How do you feel now?
Yes, you will feel juiced and ready to make some sales! And if you’re not, then your life’s purpose and goals are not compelling enough.
