The old stories of the person walking across a beach and finding an old lamp that, when rubbed, releases a genie that gives you three wishes is exactly that….an old story.
But wouldn’t it be great if you could have someone or something that you could turn to and grant your every wish. It would be a miracle, yes, though it could happen in a sort of way if you know how to use the power of the unconscious mind.
Your unconscious mind works 24/7/365. It learns from experience and drives most of the decisions you make. You have very little control on how it reacts.
But when you use it wisely, it can be a great friend of yours. How can you get this genie to work for you? What can you do to support it in the decision-making process?
Well, the subconscious can be governed by what you experience. I have outlined many times how valuable it is to develop your skills by learning from others. If you keep up to date with sales ideas that are offered by thought-leaders, writers, bloggers, emailers, twitters and the like, you can train your brain to identify (at the subconscious level) how to react or respond to situations you find yourself in.
For example, if the prospect comes up with an objection in a meeting, you can open up your genie bottle and ask yourself ‘what would Brian Tracy or Tony Robbins say to this prospect?’
By asking that question, you open up your mind to lots of opportunities or ideas that you maybe wouldn’t have thought of before. Your sales genie has to be put there in the first place, of course, but when you know what their mindset is, and you are able to link up with their ideas, it acts as a sort of genie-in-the-bottle effect, where ideas and thought-starters come flooding out. You come up with ideas you might not have considered, and your subconscious identifies the best way to move forward.
Naturally, it means you have to make the effort to listen to and gather material from your favourite thought-leaders, but when you do, it becomes much easier to apply concepts and techniques that before would have been beyond you.
So, where will your genie take you? How will you apply the power of the subconscious in your sales calls? Your wish will, with practice, become your command!
