If there was one quality or trait that you would think all great sales director share, what would you think it to be?
I’m sure you’re thinking of many, and it would be difficult to disagree with any ones that you come up with.
But if I had to choose one that would be top of the list, it would have to be the ability to manage change and risk.
If there was something that could drive a company forward and help them to achieve more in the future, you would hard pressed to find a successful director who wouldn’t be able to process and lead through change and monitor the risks associated with those changes.
Dealing with the change that happens within every company needs vision, foresight, guts and determination.
Without all those a director would start to get bogged down in fighting the changes that inevitably will be a part of the company’s future.
How can you learn to live with the changes that happen?
Firstly, understand your own responses to change.
Do you welcome it, or do you wish everything would basically stay as it is.
By knowing how you deal with change, you build up a resistance to everything you think you can’t control.
Then help others see the benefits of change and the direction the business will go if everyone gets on board.
If the business wasn’t working towards a changed future, everyone’s jobs would be at risk as your competition takes control.
How can you minimise the impact of risk?
By accepting that risk is a key entity in any business, it will give you the impetus to build strategies that will reduce the risks to your business investments and improve your overall risk rating.
Don’t leave it totally in someone else’s hands.
Managing risks in the future will be vital in increasing your ability to be stable and grow in the marketplace.
There are so many different types of business risk that it would be impossible to keep track of them all.
The risks we’re referring to here are business –based, rather than safety related.
The ability to see what risks your business needs to take in future investments and being able to quantify what the overall impacts will be is something that will set you apart from others.
So although there are many traits that great sales directors share, I believe these are the keys that will make the biggest difference in the future.
